Feeling creative and want to create your own subject lines? Here’s how to.

Our email subject line generator allows you to enter a keyword and select a tone of voice. This allows you to have many options depending on the content of your email.
After all, not every email is the same.

We have spent many hours thinking of the best email subject  lines, either from previous experience, or what we’d open if they reached our inbox.

If you’re looking for more tailored subject lines, below we’ll give you some tips on how to make it happen.

How to create amazing email subject lines

Why are the recipients getting this email?

  • They’re expecting your email (i.e. you’re delivering a lead magnet you promised them)
  • They trust and enjoy emails from you
  • Your subject line promises them something they want
  • Your subject line makes them so curious they have to click

Here are a few great subject line examples we have decided to not included in our generator but are proven to work perfectly:

[Provoking question]

[Thing] = [Thing that it doesn’t equal to]?

Sick of [something they’re definitely sick of]?

The [ something they are interested in] is here.

Here the 5 ways you can make readers curious:

  1. Ask a curiosity-inducing question
  2. Start a sequence of events, but don’t finish (i.e. an unfinished story)
  3. Exceed expectations
  4. Imply that you have information they don’t yet have
  5. Hint that they used to know something that they’ve since forgotten, and, you’re here to remind them. Lucky them!

How can you use this information to create your own subject lines?

Here are the three steps we use and are happy to share with you:

  1. Decide on the topic of your email. What are you talking about? What are you promising? What problem do you solve? What question are you answering?
  2. Take that idea and run it through the 5 ways to make readers curious (above). Go through and ask how you can use each curiosity point to make a more appealing subject line.
  3. With your new subject line, amp up the emotion. Replace normal words with arresting, emotional words that will make your recipient open the email.

A word of caution – it’s easy to turn the 5 ways to make readers curious into clickbait. We recommend that instead of using all 5 methods at once (which is like using a sledgehammer to bang in a nail), choose 2 or 3 and do them well.
